The rules of basic supervision in both
County and Common Pleas Court begin with the following statement:
"You have been granted the privilege of probation (community sanctions) by
the Holmes County Court or Common Pleas Court because the Court has decided
that the public good does not require or demand that you be immediately incarcerated. You
have the opportunity to remain a free member of society, retaining most of your privileges
and responsibilities of citizenship and working toward a final release from
probation. A Probation Officer will be assigned to work with you, help you whenever
possible and to give you counseling or refer you to various agencies or programs to assist
you. Your Probation Officer has the responsibility to require that you live by the rules
and conditions of your probation."
Specific rules of Probation vary from case to case but the purpose of Probation is
always the same. To assure the probationer complies with the terms ordered by the Court,
to report any violations to the Court, and to assist the probationer in successfully
completing his/her terms so that they may be released from probation at the end of the
probationary period.
